ews -Another 16,000 teachers are scheduled to benefit from the next salary increment and promotion plans by the government.
The move is meant to reciprocate the good gesture by the new union management to pull down all pending court cases to pave way for negotiations.
Newly elected Secretary General Collins Oyuu yesterday announced that they are planning to start on a fresh ground devoid of any accusations to be able to resume normalcy in the teaching profession. Oyuu added that the dropping of cases would help benefit the teachers who make their membership.
The secretary general added that his main role is not to fight through outdated ways unions once used to get their plea heard. Gone are days when unions had to fight employers to be able to be heard.
“At the time I was contesting, the membership had shrunk from 187,000 in the month of June 2019 to about 15,000.
“The numerous cases that we have in court tying the hands of teachers on one hand and also tying the hands of the employer, on the other hand, we agreed to pull down all cases to start on a new slate,” Oyuu acknowledged.
He also promised that the 16,000 teachers will be receiving their new dues before the end of August this year.
The next meeting between KNUT and TSC is organized to take place on Tuesday July 13 after the first one ended without much success.
