Tech -China has introduced first ever automatic car to run on the road without any driver taking control of the wheel.
After a long struggle to have this type of cars in the market, finally China is making a positive advanced stride in the development of the ride –hailing services that will see more investment pumped into the manufacturing sector to be able to deal with the global market demand.
Chinese companies – Baidu Inc. and autonomous driving startup Pony.ai – last week made the good announcement that they had been granted the country’s first permit to operate robotaxi ride-hailing services.
The permits are allowing their vehicles to drive without an operator behind the wheel, although there must be an on standby operator sited on the front passenger seat to take control just incase there is an emergency.
The company owners say the permits are designating them a 23-square miles operations space in Beijing City where they are receiving a warm and positive reception.
Currently, there are more than 200 companies in tech and auto which want to join the business and some are already testing the product.
Miles away in San Francisco US, Google’s driverless subsidiary, Waymo, has been testing its autonomous cars to see if they are worthy hitting the road. However, China still reigns supreme of the countries now in the manufacturing of the autonomous four wheeler.
