Salary –All private security firms have been notified to start paying their staff a salary of sh 30,000 and above.
The Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) on Monday, June 10, gave an ultimatum to all private security companies in Kenya to pay the said amount as salaries or risk de-registration.
In the statement issued by the Director General and CEO of the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA), Fazul Mahamed, every company is required to comply with the directive or risk losing their operational certificates.
“The Authority has today issued a final notice to all private security firms regarding the enforcement of the Ksh30,000 minimum wage for private security officers,” read part of the statement.
Fazul clarified that this is the last notice to all firms practicing security in the country as the new regulations take shape this year.
Any company that will now be found violating the regulation when the deadline elapses will have their certificates withdrawn permanently.
As at July last year, 2023, there were about 700,000 private security guards in Kenya alone. By then, Private Security Regulatory Authority Director General, Fazul Mahamed noted that only 183 firms were authorised to operate in the country.
