Stories -Kenyans who relocated overseas are forced to overwork so as to make ends meet.
In a long piece as reported by Kenyans.co.ke, it was revealed that Kenyans who are working in the UK or US are forced to sleep very few hours to be able to meet the cost of living which includes daily bills and that most have to work more than two jobs.
For instance, Betty who in May revealed the difficulties they are going through while trying to eke a living in the US, divulged that without working hard in America one will suffer lack of money and sadly decide to return home.
“Yes, we make a lot of money in salaries. However, when the money hits your account you quickly realise that a good portion of it doesn’t belong to you,
“Assuming I only had one job which brought it USD3,000 (Approximately Ksh 320,000). Deducting my USD1,700, electricity bill of USD300, other recurring expenses such as gas amounting to USD2,500, and in my case, a car note that takes away another USD300 from the salary each month and you begin to see the picture,” she detailed.
Many have to therefore work 2 to 3 jobs in a day to meet extra expenses like food, healthcare and other amenities.
Her sentiments were supported by thousands of Kenyans living abroad who urged their kin at home to stop overrating the US because life is not always honey and milk as it is always read in books.
Up to now, it is estimated that all Kenyans working outside manage to bring back home a whopping sh 3000 billion every year.
