Career –Kenyatta University KU Council has today replaced Vice Chancellor, Prof Paul Wainaina, with Waceke Wanjohi.
KU Council today defied the court orders recently issued by the Employment and Labour Relations Court which had handed the VC a life line back to work.
Council Chairman, Chrispus Kiambaa, on Friday August 5 said Wainania had already been replaced by Waceke Wanjohi who however will be acting for sometime awaiting an official replacement.
“The attention of the university community is drawn to a decision by the Hon. Justice Gakeri of the Employment and Labour Court in Nairobi on 4th August 2022 where the court dismissed an application by Prof. Paul Wainaina for injunctive orders.
“Arising from the above developments, Council has resolved that Prof. Waceke Wanjohi continues as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University until further notice,” the statement read.
Just two weeks ago, Justice Jacob Gakeri while sitting in Labour and Employment court in Nairobi, barred the suspension of the embattled VC ordering him back into office.
A section of student leaders at the school would emerge on the street warning the government against interfering with the school programme.
Prof. Wainaina’s career challenges started the moment he rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s orders of ceding part of the university land for the World Health Organization WHO which has a plan to put up a world class hub on the land.
