ax -Kenya Revenue Authority now wants to stop Kenyans from filing nil returns by limiting the number of times one can do that.
Their new plans which many Kenyans have already protested will only allow anyone to file nil returns three times for three years after which he/she must produce some commercial viability report.
This new development was revealed during taxpayers sensitization forum in which KRA noted that many people have been filing nil returns when in real sense they have been operating some businesses.
KRA added that the culture had been misused and many businessmen had resorted to it to evade tax.
“We know then and see them every day. Some of them drive high end Subarus and are in entertainment joints every day. They live in Kilimani and spend their time flaunting their flashy lifestyle on Instagram. How on earth can they claim they have zero income?” the KRA Director General James Githii Mburu said.
This is coming just weeks after they had deactivated over 60,000 personal Identification Numbers PIN of persons who have been filing Nil returns every year or who completely failed to file any.
