Friday, July 21, 2023 –Experts in the country have weighed in on the cause of the ongoing countrywide protests.
In their separate account of what is happening amid protests, the experts speaking on different media platforms in the country noted that the main cause of unrest in the country was not the opposition but the high-cost of living.
That unless this is addressed conclusively, the current administration will still have to face challenges time and again.
Speaking on Tv today Friday July 21, political analyst Mark Bichachi explained that it was wrong for the William Ruto-led administration to keep accusing the past governments of having presided over the same high cost of living.
“People are protesting the high cost of living. Even if that high cost of living started in 1964, they are in pain today. This government is the one to solve it. In the bill, they haven’t reduced the cost of living by an inch and so, the protests are justified,” noted Mark Bichachi.
Speaking on the same matter, analyst and lecturer Herman Manyora took issue with the William Ruto-led government for attempting to muzzle dissenting voices.
“The people trying to manage the demonstrations need look at our history; Article 37 is not in the Constitution by accident. Nobody has the power to allow or cancel a demonstration, not even the president,” he stated.
They were making these remarks even as the head of State was busy traversing the country to maintain his popularity.
Ruto has toured Kericho, Kisii, Narok and Nyeri counties this week alone where he has been speaking of hsi ability and achievements.
