News -Nairobi based tycoon Naushad Noorali Merali has died at the age of 70.
The family told the media that Mr. Merali breathed his last on Saturday July 3 morning after a short illness.
Mourning the mogul, President Uhuru Kenyatta described him as an important person who ran successful businesses that absorbed so many job-seekers around the country hence reducing rate of unemployment.
“I have received the shocking news of the passing away of Mr Merali with a heavy heart. The cruel hand of death has robbed our country of a successful entrepreneur whose investments contributed significantly to the economic stability and progress of our country.
“Mr Merali’s business acumen created thousands of direct and indirect jobs for our people and wealth that helped uplift many of our households from poverty. Alongside his celebrated business exploits, Mr Merali was a philanthropist whose generous giving earned him the ‘Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear’ state commendation,” President Kenyatta eulogised.
Mogul Merali founded Kenya’s second largest Telco Kencell and Sameer Group a business conglomerate active in Information technology, property, construction and finance.
He also chaired the Bharti Airtel operations in Kenya and who Forbes put at position 39 in the list of richest men in the continent of Africa.
