Mumias Sugar Company is coming back on its feet after the receivership acquired it three years ago with an aim of turning it around.
In a statement on Wednesday October 16, Area Member of Parliament Peter Salasya announced that the new receivership – Kenya Commercial Bank – is on the right course and that it has plans to mount new machines as it does away with the old ones.
“KCB listened it and in June 2019, it took it under receiver management as receiver and gave to a potential investor who was not a brief case investor.
“And as a happy leader as the MP, I can report Mumias Sugar is now fully operational and is coming back bigger and bigger,” announced MP Salasya.
“They are also in the process of putting up a new mill and have bought so many tractors”.
The youthful Member of Parliament recounted how he was able to single handedly fight for the company so that to breath in it life again.
Mumias Sugar Company, before its downfall, was the main economic pillar of Western Region with many families getting their livelihood from it.
It would later start falling on the weight of huge bills and debts with Kenya Power utility company having not been paid a bill that mounted into millions what contribute immensely to its final crippling.
