Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has expressed a concern on the Ksh 80B, an amount of money spend on salaries of government officials per month.
Addressing this issue on JKL show on Wednesday, CS Mbadi noted that the current government is bloated and very expensive to depend on the local taxes alone.
“We have a very expensive government. Today we are paying 80 billion per month at the national government level for salaries. Per year it is 960 billion and we are collecting 2.5 trillion and we are spending on loan repayment about 1.1 trillion, so where do you get money for development?” Mbadi stated.
He further said, this country has been surviving on foreign loans, grants and other development partners who have been bringing into the country extra monies, sometimes, for free. And that without them, the country ought to have collapsed.
The Finance CS, however, said, it is reaching a time the country must hold this conversation so that to reduce this too much pressure on the Treasury.
